Swietenia mahagoni is a tall tree, up to 30 m high, with a short, buttressing base, up to 1 m in diameter and a large, spherical crown, many heavy branches and dense shade. The bark is smooth grey on young trees, turning to scaly dark reddish-brown on large trees.
Trochetia Boutoniana (Boucle d'Oreille) was declared the National Flower on the 12th March 1992, when Mauritius achieved the status of Republic. Named after the famous French botanist, Louis Bouton, it is endemic to Mauritius and is found in only one locality in the wild.
Schefflera venulosa, also known as the red-veined schefflera, is a species of plant in the Araliaceae family. It is native to the island of Java in Indonesia. It is a small to medium-sized shrub, typically growing up to 3-5 meters tall. The leaves are large, glossy, and have prominent red or pink veins.
